Core competencies

Commercial due diligence

The price reflects what will hold.

  • A written view of a target’s customers, pricing, sales capacity and growth plan
  • Thesis development and target screening across financial services
  • A clear read on how much of the management case will hold

Growth and go-to-market strategy

Growth comes from a plan the team can repeat.

  • Customer segments, sales coverage, pricing and packaging
  • A repeatable way to win enterprise accounts and partners
  • Programs that grow revenue from existing customers
  • Entry into North America and other new markets

Value creation

The plan agreed at signing is the one that gets carried out.

  • Senior guidance for chief executives and boards on pricing, go-to-market and hiring
  • Commercial team design and senior hiring
  • Board roles

Financial institutions strategy

New technology becomes a business line.

  • Fintech partnerships, from selection to commercial terms
  • Digital assets and blockchain strategy

Who we serve

Leadership

Shilpa Bangera founded Gravity Capital after more than twenty years on the commercial side of financial services and fintech, on four continents.

Most recently she was Global Head of Payments at Adyen. Before that she was Chief Revenue Officer at Finastra, where she also led the open finance platform business, and she ran the global enterprise business at Uber. Earlier she led enterprise payments at Fiserv and was a Global Managing Director at London Stock Exchange Group. She was also a founding member of FXGO, Bloomberg’s foreign exchange trading platform, and began her career at JPMorgan Chase and Gartner.

Across those roles the work was usually the same. A business needed to grow in a market that was changing under it, and someone had to decide where the next revenue would come from and stay with the plan long enough for it to work. We bring that experience to our clients.

Shilpa holds an MBA and an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Mumbai and is based in the New York area.

The Gravity Playbook

Gravity is the pull a business already has. Its customers, data and relationships draw the next product, market and deal toward it. The playbook is how we find that pull and put it to work.

  1. Know where value sits

In financial services, value gathers where flows, data and trust already are.

We establish what the business owns and what the market will pay for.

  2. Set the strategy

A strategy begins with the position a business wants to hold, and works back from there.

We help leadership and investors agree on what success looks like and by when.

  3. Find the advantage

Durable growth rests on an advantage that others cannot easily copy.

We test where the business has that advantage and where it only appears to.

  4. Choose the path

The order of markets, products and partners decides how far a business gets.

We set the few strategic choices that matter and what the business will decline to do.

  5. Align for execution

A strategy holds when the board, investors and management work from the same plan.

We stay close to leadership as the strategy is carried out.

Our guiding principles

Personal relationships

Every client works directly with our founder, from the first conversation through to the final board presentation.

Trust and integrity

We act for one side of a transaction at a time, disclose any related relationship before work begins and keep what we learn in confidence.

Commitment

We serve a small number of clients at a time and stay with them through execution.

Candor

We tell clients what we see, including when a plan will not hold.

Operating experience

Our thinking comes from having run financial services businesses, so it is shaped by what works in practice.
